Covid-19 (SAR-CoV2) has focused our attention on the need to maintain Social distance, the problem is when we are inside a building, the air we breath presents issues upon what can be done to reduce the risk of viral infection transmission indoors, clearly maintaining distance of 2 metres from others helps and so does cleaning of surfaces, however building owners/managers and operators should still have concerns about their Building's ventilation, whether it be natural or mechanical.
In a naturally ventilated building, with changes in the weather to colder outdoor temperatures, building occupants will want to close the windows, thereby reducing the air change rate and therefore increasing the risk associated with viral transmission, if it is not possible to maintain an adequate fresh air supply, which can manifest itself in a number of ways, including steamy windows or a stale air smell when you first walk into the room, then a solution will be required, call us or contact us to arrange for a Consultant to discuss your options.
In a Mechanically ventilated building, you need to understand, how is it ventilated, is it a recirculation system, if so what is the percentage of fresh air being introduced during the recirculation process. How is the recirculated air being filtered. Is the recirculated air being treated in some way to reduce pathogens and bacteria.
Alternately is your building's ventilation system, extract only with input air being drawn from surrounding rooms, possibly the air could contain small particles – called aerosols – which are released by an infected person, call us or contact us to arrange for a Consultant to discuss your options.
Your buildings ventilation system may be reasonably sophisticated with, enthalpy wheels, heat recovery coils, ultra violet treatment and CO2 sensors, do you know if these have been changed to suit the current situation, please call us to arrange for a Consultant to discuss your options.
