Flood lighting and Public Realm

External lighting extends the hours of an areas use, in a Retail scenario, it attracts late night shopping, from a security point of view, exterior lighting reduces anti-social behaviour and allows safe access to an outdoor area.

The Team designed a replacement exterior flood lighting scheme to a Grade II Listed building, we assisted the Architect with technical details of the proposed design, meeting the Conservation Officer from the local planning authority to eventually receive consent for the design.

The scheme comprised LED lamp, equipped luminaires which were placed on weighted bases or strapped into position, to avoid drilling the structure, a consent requirement of English Heritage.

The luminaires where located to accentuate the features of the Building.

To minimise the amount of cabling, a control system using DMX relays and CAT5 data wiring was designed, thereby creating one point of control.

The majority of the luminaires contain colour change addressable LED lamps, therefore alternative colour schemes have been programmed into the system which allows either pre-programed changes at Christmas, or 'on the day' selection of a colour scheme.

The replacement Flood lighting scheme although illuminating the entire facade rather than just the lower floors of one building, used less energy, than the original design.

To revitalise the High Street, The Team where involved with taking the Architects images and translating them into a new Street Lighting design using building mounted and recessed ground luminaires, to provide up lighting to trees and pathway lighting for service vehicles.

The design also included recessed power poles, which can be hidden away to avoid attracting vandalism and they are deployed on Market Day or when Evening Street Concerts are taking place.

The scheme was designed to be completed in phases to synchronise with the Project development.

We were careful to design out items, which broke up the visual appearance, so avoiding street clutter and minimising potential damage though vandalism or vehicle strike.
